Bienvenue à La Maison Carrée


La Maison Carree is extremely well-situated geographically for many outdoor leisure activities.


- Swimming : River beaches, perfect for swimming are only 800m from the house and a beautiful setting in which to relax and sunbathe. At the river you will find a beach cafe and restaurant (bookings:04 66 24 03 54 ) for drinks, ice-creams and al fresco meals. With it’s childrens games and boules pitch, all the family can enjoy themselves at the beach.
- Fishing : There is trout fishing higher up in the Cevenne Mountains whilst on the plains around La Bastide de St. Denis, the rivers sport carp, perch, roach and pike. Nearby, at the fish farm in Arlinde you can help your children learn to fish and give them the thrill of their first catch.
- Canoeing : The Maison Carree is ideally situated for this sport. With the River Ardeche, the River Ceze and the River Gardon in the immediate vicinity, all levels of canoeing ability are catered for. Families with children can easily tackle from 4 to 8 kilometres of the beautiful River Ceze, with it’s superb opportunities for picnic or swimming stops, whilst canoeing the Ardeche river is an exciting and challenging experience, demanding lots of energy.
- Panning for gold: It’s enough to give you gold fever since you’re almost sure to find some gold dust, however little! Children from the age of 6 can have fun and success with this family activity.

- Walking : This area offers particularly good walking and hiking opportunities. You can choose preselected walks and trails according to your personal interests ( geology, plants, history etc. ) Guided walks are available in the Cevenne Mountains, the river gorges and the surrounding Mediterranean countryside.
- Cycling : The region has a wealth of tracks and trails which lend themselves to mountain biking, either for the serious cyclist or for families. Near the Maison Carree there are 10km of rough terrain paths which children can easily manage.
- Horse Riding : Whether you want lessons or just a ride, you’ll enjoy an unusual equestrian activity which is typical of this region...riding your horse in the river !


- Paragliding : Lessons or tandem flights are available at the local Paragliding club.
- Hot Air Ballooning: With reknowned local aeronaut Jean Donné
